OBITUARY

Marvin Treadwell Jackson, age 88, of Gratis and Dalton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025.

Born on February 4, 1937, Marvin was the son of the late Nelson Roy Jackson and the late Gladys Treadwell Jackson. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Ellen (Bridges) Jackson, and his son, Jay Marvin Jackson, of whom he was immensely proud. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Amy Jackson Smith, and brothers, Roy Maurice Jackson and Cecil Jackson.

Marvin was raised on his family’s farm in the Gratis community — a place that always held a special place in his heart and remained home no matter where life took him. He enjoyed numerous adventures in Gratis with his brother Neal and cousins Eleanor Riden, George Breedlove, and Phil Thompson. Marvin earned a Master’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Georgia and was a lifelong Georgia Bulldogs fan, rarely missing a Saturday game in the fall.

A devoted cattleman, Marvin owned and operated Custom Blend Enterprises, supplying minerals to farmers throughout Georgia and Tennessee. He cherished the many road trips he took to visit his customers, who were also his friends. Over the years, Marvin also judged cattle shows across the Southeast and shared a deep passion for raising cattle alongside his longtime friends, Danny Reid and Foster Bohannon.

Marvin is survived by and will be missed by his children, Sherry Leigh Jackson, Karen Jackson Whaley (Kelly), and Michael Andrew Jackson (Becky); his brother, Neal Jackson (Linda); and his five grandchildren, Andrew Whaley, Allison Whaley, Ansley Jackson, Reilly Jackson, and Abby Jackson. To them, he was lovingly known as “Granddaddy,” a role he treasured more than anything.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Center Hill Baptist Church in the Gratis community. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM in the church sanctuary, with interment afterward at Center Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
