OBITUARY
Walter Roger Hawk Sr, 88, of Bostwick passed away on August 11th, 2024. Born November 4th, 1935, he was the son of the late Claude and Cora Hawk of Fairplay. Enlisting in the United States Air Force Roger served his country from 1957-1961. Returning home from military service, he worked for the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta for several years. In 1964 he went to work for Wellington Leisure Products in Madison where he worked until his retirement in 2001 after 37 years of service.
Roger was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was happiest spending time with his wife whom he cherished and his family that he adored In his leisure time, he enjoyed the outdoors and music. He enjoyed getting up early and spending peaceful hours on the lake fishing with his dear friend the late Johnny Lill. Music was another of his hobbies and he was talented at playing both the guitar and the banjo.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Jo Erwin Hawk, granddaughter Adrienne Greeson, brother Bonnie Hawk and sisters Patricia Howard and Rose Waites. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Eleanor Jo Hawk, and their children: Beth Greeson (Charles) Monroe, GA, Jeff Broach (Angela) Madison, GA, Walt Hawk (Anne) Rutledge, GA, Jan Hall (Tony) Watkinsville, GA, and Roxane Finck (Dave) Bostwick, GA. Grandchildren: Mary Heredia (Victor) , Chris Hawk (Elyse), Keely Bowen, Fallon Luthi, (Kevin), Lindy Hamrick (Cory), Katie Broach, Brooks Hall, Emily Finck, and 12 great grandchildren.
Roger was a man of deep convictions, living out his faith in every aspect of his life. He was a member of Gibbs Memorial Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon for over 40 years. His love for Jesus was evident in his kindness, generosity, and the many lives he touched.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday August 15th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Meadows Funeral Home, Inc in Monroe. Funeral Services will be held Friday August 16th at 2:00 PM, at Gibbs Memorial Baptist Church in Bostwick. Interment will follow at Bostwick Memorial Cemetery. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
