OBITUARY
Elsie Mae Neely Johnson lovingly known as “Nanny”, of Monroe, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. She was born in Covington, Georgia, on September 30, 1934, to the late Ellen Elizabeth Hammonds Neely and the late Joel Edwin Neely.
Elsie was preceded in death by her son, Joseph “Marty” Johnson; her former husbands, Bobby Shubert and Jere Johnson; and her siblings, J.R. Neely, Sara Neely, Rowena “Tina” Sullivan, Joan Presley, and Gertrude “Trudy” Deese.
She leaves behind her beloved children: daughter, Wanda Weldon and spouse, Danny Weldon, and son, Timothy Johnson and spouse, Deborah Johnson. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Christy and Brian Peppers, Rheagan and James Conner, Corey Johnson and Brandy Glass, and Jamie Johnston; great-grandchildren: Kaleb Moon, Kailey and Randy Bunch, Kyle Moon, Camron Conner, Mackenzie Conner, Chandler Calhoun, and Kroy “KJ” Johnson; and great-great-grandchildren: Rylee Bunch, Kason Bunch, Avery Bunch, Kennedy Bunch, and Addison Bunch. She is further survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She loved God deeply and lived out that love by supporting and caring for others, especially those in need. Her kindness, strength, and selflessness were felt by all who crossed her path.
Above all, Nanny loved her family fiercely. Her legacy lives on through the values she instilled, the love she poured out, and the countless memories that will forever be cherished.
She will be missed beyond measure, but we rejoice knowing she is whole, healed, and home.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 11:00am to 12:00pm, at 1025 Church in Monroe, Georgia. The funeral service will take place at 1:00pm, with Pastor Tommy Fountain officiating. Interment will follow immediately after the service, at Bethel Christian Church Cemetery, in Conyers, Georgia.
