OBITUARY
Julie Maxey Haney, of Monroe, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 28th at 4:44 a.m., surrounded by her loving family at the hospital after a courageous and hard-fought battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was 60 years old.
Born on April 8, 1965, in Decatur, Georgia, to the late James Percy Maxey and Carolyn Finch Maxey, Julie was the "baby" of five children. She attended Druid Hills High School and went on to college, where she met the love of her life, Mark Pitt Haney. The couple shared a devoted marriage of 40 years.
Julie was the heart of her family. For the past 20 years, she and Mark resided in The Providence Club in Monroe, living right next door to her daughter, Alex. This proximity allowed her to pour her love into her family daily. She was a devoted mother who dedicated her life to Alex and her beloved grandsons. Her passion for creativity and her love for all things monogrammed led her to co-found her own company, Haney Embroidery Designs, alongside her daughter.
First diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, Julie faced her illness with incredible bravery and a smile that never faded, even when the cancer returned in 2024. She was known as the happiest person in the room; whenever asked how she was doing, her answer was always a genuine, "I'm happy." Her spirit remained unbreakable to the very end.
Julie is survived by her husband, Mark Pitt Haney; her daughter, Alexandra Haney Lussi and son-in-law Garrett Alan Lussi; and her two cherished grandsons, Haney Alan Lussi (13) and Atlee Joseph Lussi (11).
She is also survived by her four siblings: James Keith Maxey, Lisa Kay Maxey Lallerstedt, Mark Thomas Maxey, and Carol Maxey Campbell; as well as her nieces and nephews: Thomas Maxey, Kathryn Maxey Ryals, Maxey Lallerstedt, Matthew Lallerstedt, Michael Maxey, Jonathan Maxey, Chris Campbell, Kelsey Campbell Dwinnell, and Corey Campbell. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 21st at The Southern Ox in Monroe, Georgia. Fulfilling Julie's wishes, the family invites you to join them for singing, dancing, and having "Fun" in her honor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
