OBITUARY
Michael “Mike” King Ramsey, age 68 of Monroe, passed away May 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Bainbridge, Georgia, on March 17, 1958, to the late Allan McLaurin Ramsey, Jr., and the late Zoy King Ramsey.
Mike grew up in an Air Force family as the middle of five children. They moved several times throughout his childhood and lived in California, Kansas, Michigan, and Georgia. Mike attended Warner Robins High School and graduated in 1976. He was an outstanding student athlete and played basketball, football, and baseball.
After attending Georgia Southern, Mike began his professional career at Cooper Industries in Statesboro, where he rose through the ranks as Traffic Supervisor and Master Scheduler. A natural problem-solver, he also patented an original assembly device and served as President of the National Management Association. During those years, he found community on the field as well, playing softball and golf on the Cooper-Wiss company teams.
Seeking a new challenge later in life, Mike made a bold career change and joined the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office as a mandated deputy. He served as a jailer before transitioning to Court Services at the Rockdale County Courthouse, where he worked for many years. He also brought that same dedication to a part-time security role with the Atlanta Braves.
In retirement, Mike discovered a new calling as a beekeeper. Mike and Matthew built the Ramsey Apiary from the ground up, eventually tending 17 hives. Mike became an active member of both the Walton County and East Piedmont Beekeepers Associations — harvesting honey and nurturing his hives with the same quiet pride he brought to everything he did.
Mike and Michele met in Statesboro in 1988. They were married at the UGA Botanical Gardens on July 14, 1990. He and Michele were avid Georgia Bulldog fans and football season ticket holders for over 30 years. Athens was one of his favorite places to be, and he could be found tailgating and attending games on Saturdays every Fall. He traveled to many away games and bowl games to see the Dawgs play. Mike and Michele enjoyed seeing the Bulldogs win the Peach, Sugar, Outback, and Orange Bowls and numerous SEC Championships. They also traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana, to see the Bulldogs defeat Alabama in the 2021 National Championship.
Mike loved to vacation and explore the great outdoors with his family. The Ramseys enjoyed trips to the Bahamas, Mexico, Jekyll Island, Orlando, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Yosemite National Park, and many other historic locations.
In his spare time, Mike enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, attending concerts, watching movies, and relaxing with family and friends. He loved supporting his children with their extracurriculars, always attending musicals and performances. He was also a true animal lover and trained many horses and dogs throughout his life.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Donald Whitley Brown; mother-in-law, Janie Kennedy; paternal grandparents, Allan McLaurin Ramsey, Sr., and Maisy Rich Ramsey; maternal grandparents, Homer Pratt King and Beulah King; son, Patrick Peaster; brother, James “Jim” Ramsey; and brother-in-law, Dave Cooper.
Surviving members of Mike’s family include his wife of 35 years, Michele Brown Ramsey; daughter, Megan Whitley Ramsey; son, Matthew Chandler Ramsey; son, John Tyler Deal (Carly); and grandchildren, Mason, Wyatt, and Adelyn. Surviving siblings include Lisa Stokes (Pat), Tom Ramsey (Liz), and Dina Cooper. He is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews; 8 great nieces and nephews; and his beloved four-legged friends, Major and Milo.
