OBITUARY

Alice Joyce Witcher Shumate of Monroe, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026 at the age of 91.

A lifelong resident of Walton County, Alice was born on September 25, 1934, to the late Herman Witcher and Viola Gresham Witcher. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James H. "Pete" Shumate, in 2004.

Alice was a member of Alcovy Mountain Baptist Church and dedicated 30 years of hard work to Oxford Industries before her retirement. Alice hosted many family gatherings. Her home was always immaculately clean, welcoming, and ready to embrace a crowd.

Surviving Alice are: Her Children; Cathy Conger (Steve) of Monroe and Larry Shumate (Rheda Gail) Lady Lake, Fl; Grandchildren; Beth Prater, Christy Garcia, Krissy Berger, Larah Sheppard, Amy Conger, Jameson Shumate, and Johnathan Conger; and 16 great-grandchildren; Her Sister-in-law and Dear Friend: Angelyn Shumate, who was not only family but a steadfast source of strength and compassionate caregiving for Alice; Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who lovingly called her "Auntie" Alice was raised with seven siblings, surviving her are Junaita Mitchem, Reba White, Ralph Witcher and Randy Witcher. Alice was also survived by her three sister-in-law’s, Alice Peace, Patricia Witcher, and Paulette Thornton.

She was predeceased in death by her brothers, Lewis Witcher, Bobby Witcher, and Raymond Witcher.

A visitation will be held on Monday June 1^st at Meadows Funeral Home from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM.  Funeral services will follow at 11:30 AM at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn Head officiating.  Interment will follow at Alcovy Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery.  Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
