OBITUARY

Dorothy Jean Wilson, age 84 of Monroe, passed away on July 30, 2026 with her family beside her. Dot was born on February 17, 1942 in Walton County to the late George Thomas Peters and the late Drew Willie Peters. Dot was preceded in death by her infant sister, Joyce Ann Peters.

Surviving members of Mrs. Wilson’s family are, her husband of 51 years, Tommy Wilson; daughters, Christie Stewart (Lee), Misty Middlebrooks (Scott); grandchildren, Roy Thomas Stewart (Savanna), Wilson Stewart (MacKenzie), Pete Stewart, Lydia Stewart; uncle, Harry Lemonds; aunt, Barbara Lemonds.

Dot loved her family dearly and spent most of her life taking care of them and others. She loved to cook huge meals for her family and always made sure that there was something at every meal that each person would eat. She took care of her parents in their later years. Dot always made sure that her husband Tommy was taken care of. Even up until a few weeks before she passed away, she would ask him if he had enough to eat at meals or if he needed anything else. Dot was always actively involved in the lives of her two girls, and she loved her son-in-laws as her own. Over the years, she babysat and spoiled many of her cousins. Her favorite title was “Granny.” She loved taking care of her grandbabies and her grand furkids.

Dot loved animals and always had some kind of pet, including dogs, cats, goats, pigs, ducks, and guinea pigs. She enjoyed being outside, whether she was cutting grass, feeding her hummingbirds, watering her flowers, feeding & watching the deer, or sitting under a shade tree. Her home away from home was Panama City Beach. Over the years, she and Tommy spend many weeks there during the summers. Until her dementia started, whenever life got hard, you would often find Dot sitting at the table reading her Bible and talking to Jesus. She often read it aloud for Tommy to listen also. Dot loved to talk to people whether it was in person or on the phone. She never met a stranger.

Dot lived her whole life within a distance of less than a quarter of a mile. She was born in her grandparents’ house. Over her 84 years, she lived in several different homes nearby. She passed away at her daughter's house, which is next door to where her grandparents’ house once stood.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Meadows Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at 1:30 PM in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Fountain officiating. Interment will follow at Peters Cemetery in Madison, Georgia.
